My daughter plays the fiddle, not the violin, and it’s an important distinction: Fiddle music is a whole sunshiny animal unto itself, born of traditional roots and primeval ties to the earth. The very best fiddlers tend to channel the primordial, something I can only hope my daughter learns to do as she grows into her instrument.

I’m also hoping she’ll catch a spark off the animated bows of Irishman Kevin Burke, Christian Lemaître of Brittany and French-Canadian André Brunet, who tour with guitar accompanist Ged Foley as the Celtic Fiddle Festival, playing on stage both individually and together. Tonight at 8 p.m. at Cameron Church, 1600 South Pearl Street, they’ll put on a concert for Denver audiences that’s as much a lesson in regional styles and quirks as it is a mind-blowing show of skill.
