The 21st City Park Jazz season will go on as planned this year despite the major construction that makes the bandstand by Ferril Lake, where the free outdoor concerts have always traditionally been staged, look like an iffy place to spread a picnic blanket. Instead, the first three concerts, beginning with one at 6 p.m. on June 3, will be held in the meadows area west of the lake. When the shows return to the bandstand, the wait and displacement will have been worth it: New landscaping, refurbished rose gardens and the lake’s resurrected Electric Fountain will provide the backdrop for the rest of the summer.
In the meantime, Dazzle Restaurant and Lounge, 930 Lincoln Street, will host a City Park Jazz Kickoff Fundraiser tonight, with shows at 7 and 9 p.m., featuring tunes by Convergence and a special deal that allows ticket-holders to redeem their stubs for food purchases at the club through the end of the month (except on Father’s Day). Set your ears to jazz and turn up the volume; for tix, $20, visit www.cityparkjazz.org or call 303-744-1004.
