Founded last spring following a one-time get-together for a rainforest benefit in Boulder, Great American Taxi is most prominently driven by former Leftover Salmon frontman and unabashed loon Vince Herman — but he’s by no means the only driver with pedal power in the band’s collective talent pool. The outfit, handpicked by Herman, features other newgrass luminaries such as songwriter and stringed-instrument wizard Jefferson Hamer of the Single Malt Band, veteran skinsman Jake Coffin and members of the Dan Bern Band. If you’re hankering for some of that high-country-festival sound with a dollop of Nashville and more thrown in for good measure, Taxi can take you where you want to go. With a seven-song EP under its belt and more songs on the dash, Great American Taxi is ramping up its tour schedule for a run that’s sure to garner plenty of new fares. Sit back and enjoy the ride.
